Czech Wedding - Tips and Tricks!

Dress Code:

  • There will be some walking between locations at various times, and some stairs to climb, so make sure you have/wear appropriate shoes.

  • Czech dress code is a little more conservative, so please dress in appropriate formal wear.

  • It is inappropriate in Czech to dictate colour code, but Gents - long sleeved white shirts, and black/dark suits and Ladies, no white or black dresses please.

  • It will get cold in the evening, so it is recommended to have a formal jacket or similar (can be any colour) for the evening and early morning - it can get cold (7-10 Celsius) in Czech!

  • The day can be warm 20-30 Celsius, so bare this in mind too! (yes still long sleeves gents, sorry!)

Etiquette:

  • During the ceremony, the atmosphere will be a happy time, however unlike in traditional UK weddings there is no noise at the kiss, nor at any time during the ceremony.

  • As a general rule. join in applause when it has been started, but you will most likely get looks if you start clapping at wrong time and cheer/whoop, so please refrain from this where possible. This is THE MOST prominent cultural difference you are likely to come across at the wedding.

  • The ceremony room is a moderate size, but it is likely that some younger guests (there are a number of seniors) may be asked to stand for the ceremony.

  • Food waste is regarded poorly in Czech, it’s understandable you may not be able to finish the whole dinner, but at other parts of the wedding, try to only take what you can eat, but there is no restrictions as long as you can finish it, in fact it’s seen as good if you enjoy the food! :D
